At the COCIR Annual General Assembly in Brussels this year, we decided to hold an open session, focusing on the future of Europe in health innovation.
We heard from the European Commission their vision for a competitive and innovative European market in the light of the EU Agenda on Digital Transformation of Health and Care.
We used the opportunity of this open session to invite leading Scientific Society ESTRO, with whom we already enjoy well-established partnerships, to learn from scientists how they can contribute to a value-based approach in their domain. We also had the privilege to have Karin Sipido, Chair of the H2020 Scientific Panel for Health.
Earlier this year, and building on our MDR position paper and EU RA Day held in Brussels exclusively for our Members, we had open and constructive discussions with European Commission, some present Member States and Notified Bodies representatives on industry regulatory challenges in the years to come and how to tackle the dual challenge of creating the right regulatory and at the same time the investment conditions for the European medical device industry.

During the COCIR General Assembly in Brussels, Joost Leeflang announced that he is standing down from the COCIR Presidency; Jan Kimpen has been elected as the new COCIR President. Jan joined Philips in 2016 as Chief Medical Officer and is responsible for clinical innovation and strategy, medical affairs and health economics. Previously he was CEO of the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Within the initiative of the Digital Single Market (DSM), The European Commission released recently several communications. Read more what we published in our COCIR News. COCIR is currently working with its member companies to continue our contribution for the months to come.
In addition, the European Commission published on 2 May its proposal for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). Read more what we published in our COCIR News. COCIR will continue to work with our experts in Research and Innovation to ensure medical technologies are better supported in the future plans.
Coming up at international level, DITTA will be well represented at the forthcoming World Health Assembly in Geneva. We are proud that WHO accepted our DITTA joint session with IFPMA on “Better access for all with sustainable financing systems: the role of the private sector and new innovations to achieve Universal Health Coverage”.
