COCIR General Assembly Launches New Website and Publications

At the COCIR General Assembly today, a number of new initiatives and publications were launched. COCIR also welcomed speakers from the European Commission and Parliament to their Open Session.


COCIR launched its new website at Opens external link in new windowwww.cocir.org today. The new website is user-friendly and is structured around COCIR’s leadership in eHealth, medical imaging, ethics and environment among other themes.


During the General Assembly, COCIR launched its long-awaited Initiates file downloadCOCIR Servicing Guide. This new guide sets out the gold standard for maintenance and is an important milestone for COCIR. As maintenance is a critical element for medical imaging equipment, this new guide will help healthcare providers understand the servicing obligations required to ensure the quality and safety of this equipment along its entire lifecycle.


Given COCIR’s proactive position on green technology, COCIR also launched a Initiates file downloadnew guide today summarising the compliance obligations for medical device manufacturers in the Revised Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS II) which came into force in the Member States this year.
The Open Session of the COCIR General Assembly focused on ‘public health: challenges and opportunities at EU and international level’. Several speakers from the European Commission’s DG SANCO and DG Trade were welcomed, as well as MEP Nora Berra who shared the internal market and consumer protection committee’s opinion on the revised Medical Device Regulation.


Nicole Denjoy, COCIR Secretary General, said, “Today’s General Assembly brought together our membership to share their experience and views on matters of strategic importance like EU Regulation, the EU-US initiative on regulatory convergence as well as on the work done at international level through the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF).”


DG SANCO also outlined the important ongoing work being done to set up a voluntary HTA Network, as per Article 14 of the European Directive on Cross-Border Patient Rights. This Directive will be enforced at national level in October 2103.
