26 April 2011 - IHE-Europe is delighted to announce that the European Association of Hospital Managers (EAHM) has joined as its newest member during the General Assembly at the 11th Annual European Connectathon.

Founded in 1970, EAHM is the umbrella association for 28 leading hospital management associations in 25 European countries representing over 16,000 individual members. One of the world's largest hospital management associations, EAHM represents both the hospital managers of public and private hospitals in the European Union and at international level.

"We are pleased to welcome EAHM as a new member bringing fresh perspectives to our activities while providing the association with a broader representation among stakeholders in healthcare," said Jacqueline Surugue and Peter Kuenecke, User and Vendor co-chairs for IHE-Europe in a joint statement.

Hospital executives recognize the importance of encouraging greater interoperability for hospital information systems, according to the chairman for the EAHM Working Party of Hospital IT Managers, Pierre-Michael Meier.

"As an association we need to be inside the process of improving hospital information exchange where IHE-Europe plays a central role," he said. "At the same time we can contribute insights that vendors of hospital systems may not have considered so far. Our advice based on real experiences with cross hospital health information exchange."
