COCIR is monitoring and contributing to the development of regulations beyond the EU, and is informing its members on market access threats and opportunities.

COCIR is supporting the interest of its members by promoting:

  • convergence of regulatory frameworks worldwide
  • use of international standards in such frameworks
  • reduction of regulatory burden worldwide
  • cooperation among sister trade associations in non-EU countries.

Besides the International Organisations activities (IMDRF, AHWP, WHO, WTO...), COCIR is monitoring the legislation developments in the BRICK countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, Korea.

In September 2012, European Commission (including DG Trade, DG Enterprise and DG SANCO) initiated with its counter part in the US an initiative on regulatory convergence. Since the start of this initiative, COCIR has been active and cooperating closely with MITA (US Trade association).

In October 2012, COCIR and MITA  provided a first round of contribution identifying specific priorities for our industry.

A more detailed joint contribution is under preparation in the context of this Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.

US President Obama, EU Council President Van Rompuy and EU Commission President Barroso officially announced their intention to launch bilateral negotiations on a Transatlantic free trade pact between the EU and the US by June.  DG Trade/USTR have planned an important meeting for April which will take place in Washington with stakeholders.
